A New Favorite Blogger. …

So I’ve started reading, every day, a new favorite blog of mine: It’s Billy Coffey’s What I Learned Today.

It’s filled with great storytelling, excellent writing, and interesting thoughts and issues to ponder.

And I have to admit, I’m a little jealous. … He just writes so well.

But jealousy – and all other issues of life, for that matter – are the very issues Billy addresses. (Well, … actually, I don’t know that he’s covered jealousy, but he might someday.)

He presents the issues as those we all struggle with – he admits his shortcomings, his own struggles, his own pondering of what God wants for him – and he always brings it around to what he’s learned, through people, lessons, everyday life and everyday trials.

And he’s a master storyteller. Truly. (Sure enough, he has his first book coming out this year, called Snow Day.)

Anyway, I just love his blog. And I think you will, too. Swing by and check it out!

(In the meantime, I’ll work on my own shortcomings. Like that writer’s jealousy. …)

Kwana’s Story of Meeting Frank McCourt

I wanted to share a friend’s post today. My new blogosphere writing friend, Kwana Jackson, wrote the coolest post the other day about how Frank McCourt — Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Angela’s Ashes who passed away at 78 this week — was her high school creative writing teacher! How very cool. I wanted to put the link here so you could read her story about him and his effect on her life: Kwana’s story of Frank McCourt.

And while you’re there, peruse Kwana’s site. It’s a great one. She has the neatest, happiest, most upbeat attitude. I always go there knowing she’s going to have some fun, fast read, and I always leave feeling happier. Plus her daily updates on her little dog Jack are just too cute.

Funny Blog Names

At my job, I’m always looking at blogs, and some of the names really catch my attention. The funny names always intrigue me. Here are some of my favorites:

Do you have some blogs whose names you just love? Share them with us! I love a little “clever” on a Monday morning. …

Friends’ and Family’s Blogs …

Okay, so my blogroll is really shaping up now. It’s looking more like my Google reader, showing what I read every day.

Here are a few more. These are more personal – family and friends, and friends I’ve just met through blogging. But some good talent here, and mighty fine people. …

Know the Score — This is my son, so I might be a little biased, but I think he’s awesomely terrific. (!!!) I don’t think you’d ever guess it was a 15-year-old writing this (except that I just told you). Tell me what you think. He’s covering sports, but he doesn’t want to cover any specific team or talk too technically about specific games – he just likes to “talk sports” in general: trends, theories, etc. He has posts here about how important numbers are for your jersey, the Top 10 sports movies of all time, Michael Phelps and how his “fall” might affect teens, the death of Nick Adenhart, etc. My son wants to be a sports writer someday, so I think he’s on the right path. : )

QuinnanopolisBill Q. is a commenter on my blog, and a friend of mine from the newspaper days. I always enjoyed his writing. He keeps a blog about politics, writing, religion, running – you name it. He’s also a stay-at-home dad with four children, which you would think would give him fodder for at least four additional blogs! Anyway, Bill is always smart and always presents himself so clearly. His last two posts were “Another One Bites the Dust,” about how sad it is to see stores closing, and “Random Notes to Self After First Marathon” – very cool! Continue reading
