Gorgeous Yosemite ….

I need to interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to say that I’m in Yosemite, and I can never get over how beautiful it is. … I wanted to take our kids to the “Top 3” national parks, which are Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Yosemite. So far our assessment: We LOVED Grand Canyon, are even MORE in love with Yosemite. It’s just hard to believe so much beauty could exist in one place.

We “hiked” (it’s an easy walk) to Lower Yosemite Falls the first day. We’ll see what’s in store for Day 2. …

  1. Sharon — Great tip. Sunsets are supposed to be spectacular there. I have to say, we have never been there that late. We stay outside of the park, so we tend to zip out of there around 6 p.m. so we don’t have to do the curly-cue roads in the dark. (Although the lighting is pretty amazing then, too — especially through the pines and along the creeks.) But I think I’d like to try to stay sometime inside the park, too.

Kristi — Oh, wow, you MUST tell me more of that story! Where exactly did he propose? Had you two been there before, or did it have other special meaning?

  2. We went through Yosemite on our honeymoon, and were totally bowled over with its beauty. It was mid April and seriously cold and snowy, but utterly breathtaking.

  3. Longtimelakerlover — Welcome! Nice to hear this from you! Yes, “breathtaking” is truly the word. I used to work at a newspaper, and we always made fun of the word “breathtaking” — we thought it was so silly (…”Do those granite countertops LITERALLY take your breath away?” …) But, I have to say, at Yosemite, the word meant that exactly! I actually gasped when we first came through that tunnel and saw the valley floor like that. We stopped there, and my daughter and I looked back at the subsequent cars coming out of the tunnel, and my daughter pointed out that you could see people mouthing “WOW” through the windshield!) So happy to hear another person say this! And I’m gathering that any season is gorgeous there? : )
