Who is Your Doppelganger?

As some of you may have noticed on Facebook and Twitter, it’s Doppelganger Week (which seems to be evolving into Doppelganger Month!). Users have been changing their profile pictures and avatars to a celebrity who they are often told they look like. I’ve met “Victoria Principal,” “Olivia Newton John,” “Ferris Bueller” (VHS Shawn, for those of you who know him! That was a good one. …), Bill Clinton, and more.

I’m too lazy to change to my avatar, honestly, but if I were going to change it for Doppelganger Week, here’s who I’d change it to:

Yep, that’s right. I’ve been told more than once I remind someone of Bonnie Hunt. Too bad I’m not nearly as funny.

Superman has been told more than once that he looks like Oscar De La Hoya! Once we were in Benihanas, and a woman on the other side of the table came over and said, “I know you’re probably told this ALL the time, but … ” I loved that. (Oscar is hot!) (And so is Superman!)

So what about you? Who is your celebrity look-alike?

A New Blog in the Works. …

Guess what? I’m starting another blog!

Yeah, I know — This blogging thing is getting out of hand. I’m blogging all over the place, and getting very little other writing done. And I’m trying to write two novels, and find an agent, a raise a family, and have an actual full-time job. …

But I really, really like it. And I just want one more. …

(Does that sound like addict talk?)

Anyway, the new blog is going to be a bit more professional — just me giving actual, usable advice. This Mizwrite blog, meanwhile, will be my “main blog” — where I come to chat, and whine, and ask you guys questions, and check in to see what you’re up to. It’s my first love, afterall. …

So I’ll let you guess what the other blog will be — any ideas? One hint: It’s what I was doing here.

How To Make LinkedIn Work For You

The new year is always a time when people are in the mood to get out their new calendars, clean out their closets, update their phone lists, and otherwise start fresh.

And now it’s becoming a good time to clean up our social media profiles, too. (Or, for some of us, to start social media profiles on networks we’ve been ignoring.)

But rather than try to do them all at once, it might be less overwhelming (and more fun, actually) to deal with each social media network at a time.

Since I do social media work for my company, and review these networks quite often (and use most of them), I’ll throw out my best recommendations for you.

Let’s start with LinkedIn:

What is LinkedIn? LinkedIn is a professional online networking system that allows you to connect with people in a professional way — sharing resumes, work history, work-related articles, and professional contacts and networking groups.

Who should be using it? Anyone who is building a professional career and expects to be doing so for at least another five years. Continue reading

Wow! 1,000th Comment! Thanks, Kat!

Wow, Kat is my 1,000th comment!!! YAY!!! *confetti falling* *hands clapping*

Her comment on “Lovin’ Disney Halloween No. 2” marked 1,000 comments to date. How exciting!

And how appropriate that it’s Kat, too! Why? Because Kat was the first “outside person” (… you know … like not one of my friends or my husband) who became a fan of my blog. And she was the first to give me a link out in the blogosphere and put me on her blogroll. Back then (in February? March?), she wrote a nice little article about me on her blog (I was going to go find it for you, but I can’t find it now), and made me feel like an official blogger that day! {Thanks Kat!}

Her blog is great: It’s Happy Hour Somewhere, and is always funny.

I even mentioned her once before in this post about funny blog names because hers makes me smile every time. I also mentioned her in this thanks to all commenters, because I really do appreciate her and all of you.

So THANKS to everyone for helping me get to 1,000 comments. I love your comments. They totally make my day. (If you don’t believe me, just ask Superman.) You can all look for your official prize of fairy dust and rainbow glitter in the mail soon. …

Writing, Critiquing and Blogging — Oh My!

Whew! Well, I’m falling a bit behind in my blogging schedule, but it’s certainly not for lack of topics. My head is always swimming with a million things I want to write about. Since I’m on Twitter all day (for work), I see a gazillion links, articles, photos, blog posts, youTube videos, trending topics, and twitpics that tempt me each day … it’s a veritable information overload. Meanwhile, my brother-in-law is sending me health and news clips, my editor-in-chief is sending me links, my husband is sending me interesting food and diet articles, my coworker Amanda has this long list of interesting news bytes … ayeeee … Sometimes I drive home and just blast the radio and try to turn my brain off.

But sometimes … I don’t.

Sometimes I write in the car.

And sometimes I write on my lunch break.

And I’m writing like crazy every night. I’m still making tweaks to the manuscript that’s supposed to be done (and that I’m not supposed to be messing with right now). I’m still opening the file of the next book every day and wondering if I should jump in. Meanwhile, I’m critiquing my friend Patti’s novel for at least an hour every night, and then I need to take a look at another friend’s outline. Continue reading
