Cuidado!
This is the yellow tape at the base of my stairs right now.
We had a slab leak between some downstairs walls, and now my downstairs powder room, kitchen, base of the stairs, and den (a.k.a. writing area) are torn down to the cement and 2-by-4s as the area gets dried out. Blah. Here’s more: …

And here’s what my and Nathan’s desks look like right now, with bookcases and file cabinets shoved up where the chairs should be, and all kinds of junk piled on top. Ayeeee. I don’t think I’m going to get much writing done right now:
I think my Thanksgiving decorations are going to look really nice this year, don’t you?
Anyway, I’ll figure it out! At least I don’t host Thanksgiving at my house, and I still have three-and-a-half weeks until my college kids come home for Christmas. And at least I’m not on deadline. Maybe I can learn to write on a laptop and discover the joys of writing in bed.

Trying To Look on The Bright Side of Things

Ha, ha! That’s good, Debi! I like that! That’s a definite bright side. And so true. The insurance lady is supposed to come this afternoon, and when I was leaving the house this morning, I thought, oh, geez, I’d better “straighten up” so we have a place to sit and talk, but … I mean … where to even START??? Every surface seems covered with “stuff” that’s been moved from elsewhere. So then I decided she’s probably used to this (and worse) and won’t mind if everything’s been piled onto the dining table, etc. 🙂
I definitely am hoping for a quick resolution for your household. I know it’s times like this that I tell Jack, “Call the landlord”, and he reminds me we are the landlords. We remodeled our kitchen in Tustin several years ago and were told it would be done in time for Thanksgiving. It was concluded two days prior so I planned to cook the big meal for our family. Well, as I get started on Thanksgiving Day, I go to the kitchen sink and there is water leaking out from underneath. No one is open to purchase any parts. Jack turns the water off at the main and we somewhat decide this isn’t going to happen afterall. Oddly, our elderly neighbor across the street happened to be home and he and Jack were good “sitting on the porch swing” buddies, so he went to talk to him. Lo and behold he had the parts needed in his garage and even volunteered to come over and help install them. We attribute the saving of that Thanksgiving to Mr. Groom. It wouldn’t have happened without him.
Again, hope things get back to normal quickly. I know it’s quite an inconvenience.

Oh, wow, Lynnette — I hope Mr. Groom got a nice big piece of pumpkin pie! 🙂 That’s a great story. I would have panicked if I were you once the water went off at the main and thinking of all those guests coming over!!
But yeah, I’m trying to think of this all as a minor inconvenience more than anything. Chris is really keeping things in perspective by calling it an “adventure”!
Oh No!! Hope things were better today than they were yesterday!
O vey! I think nearly everyone in South Orange County has experienced this at some point. No fun! I still don’t quite understand why there are so many plumbing leaks in such new housing! My parents live in 100 year-old houses in Ohio and their plumbing, despite all the freezing and thawing, has never leaked! I guess that there is some sort of plumbing triangle of death that runs from Corona del Mar, out to the mountains, and down to San Clemente. Boo! As you know, our townhome was recently completely repiped with new PEX piping and, thankfully, our new house has PEX piping. Let’s all hope for no more plumping leaks for everyone in 2015 and beyond!
